about us

Ghent Singers is a collective of professional singers based in Ghent, Belgium. It was founded in 2018 by soprano Jolien De Gendt. The group made a promising start performing Ravel's 'L'Enfant et les Sortilèges' in three sold-out semi-staged performances in the Henry Le Boeuf hall in BOZAR, Brussels, in December 2018, alongside the Belgian National Orchestra, conducted by Otto Tausk. In the same month, the ensemble gave its debut in Ghent, in an a cappella Christmas concert conducted by Ivan Yohan. In 2019 Ghent Singers premiered 'Ecce homo' by Raoul De Smet in the Sint-Maartens church in Kortrijk and the Sint-Paulus church in Antwerp, together with the M-ensemble, under the baton of Pascale Van Os. In 2019 the collective also created 'Choir Piece' by artist Felix Kindermann, combining 'Composition for Separated Musicians' by award-winning composer Nathalie Dietterich with a choreography by Florian Fischer. This production was premiered in the Dhondt-Daenens Museum in Deurle, and was subsequently performed in S.M.A.K. Gent, KANAL-Centre Pompidou in Brussels, KIT Cafe in Düsseldorf and Kunsthal Gent.
